|
For a number of years now, Happy Valley School has operated a
Middle School scheme aimed at preparing our senior students for secondary school and
beyond.
Students involved in the programme are the Year 6 and
Year 7 students. It is hoped that through their involvement in the programme all
senior students will develop skills and attitudes enabling them to better function as
productive and effective citizens in a changing society.
Early in each academic year, the school holds a Middle School Orientation Day aimed
at providing lots of opportunities for the students to get to know each other, and to
build team work and cooperation skills. |
|
Throughout the day the students rotate through ten different
activities, six outdoor and four indoor. The emphasis is on participation, fun and
cooperation.
In addition to the Year 6 and 7 teachers, a number of
senior staff and specialist teachers join in to provide lots of fun and variation
throughout the day. |
|
|
Lunch is always an enjoyable part of the day. Quite a few
parents volunteer to assist with a barbecue lunch which is always well-received by the
students. Here a few of them sit on the outdoor furniture to enjoy their lunch. |
|
Middle school students work with Mrs. Miller on
parachute activities. |
|
At the conclusion of the day, all Year 6/7 students assemble in
the School Hall. During this special assembly, each student receives a Participation Award
Certificate to put in their portfolios. |
