For a metropolitan school the students certainly enjoy superb rural views from the school. The photograph above shows Year 6/7 students enjoying a glorious autumn day on the school oval as part of The Middle School Orientation Day.

Overall, the "Orientation Day" was a huge success and I would like to thank all the participating teachers for organizing the day, and all the parents who cooked and served the food.

For a number of years now, Happy Valley School has operated a Middle School scheme aimed at preparing our senior students for secondary school and beyond.

Students involved in the programme are the Year 6 and Year 7 students. It is hoped that through their involvement in the programme all senior students will develop skills and attitudes enabling them to better function as productive and effective citizens in a changing society.

Early in each academic year, the school holds a Middle School Orientation Day aimed at providing lots of opportunities for the students to get to know each other, and to build team work and cooperation skills.

Throughout the day the students rotate through ten different activities, six outdoor and four indoor. The emphasis is on participation, fun and cooperation.

In addition to the Year 6 and 7 teachers, a number of senior staff and specialist teachers join in to provide lots of fun and variation throughout the day.

Lunch is always an enjoyable part of the day. Quite a few   parents volunteer to assist with a barbecue lunch which is always well-received by the students. Here a few of them sit on the outdoor furniture to enjoy their lunch.

Middle school students work with Mrs. Miller on parachute activities.

At the conclusion of the day, all Year 6/7 students assemble in the School Hall. During this special assembly, each student receives a Participation Award Certificate to put in their portfolios.
