Children's Comments

They showed us how you can make different sounds on the skin of a drum by tapping the skin, running your nail along it or rubbing your palm over it."

Robert (Year 6)

I found it interesting how they used tuned and un-tuned percussion The tuned instruments were the marimba and the vibraphone."

On 17th August, a percussion group from Musica Viva called "Rhythm Works" visited our school and performed in the School Hall. The group was made up of Jim, Simon, Kevin and Tim; all very versatile and accomplished percussionists.

During the performance, the group performed songs with   rhythm patterns from many different countries. A very wide selection of instruments, both tuned and un-tuned, was featured by the group ..... even rubbish bins! They were a great hit with the children.

Other than the natural appeal of the rhythms, the children enjoyed the audience participation. The children were encouraged to be active during each song and quite a few were brought out the front to perform with the group.

Here Samantha and Stefan  join Tim, Jim, Simon and Kevin to beat out a song ..... much to the delight of the audience.
Throughout the performance the group used a lot of comedy and interaction that kept the show moving smoothly.

Overall, it was a show that the children found very enjoyable.
