Student Comments

"I think the Performance Day was a great success.  It was enjoyed by both staff and students and especially the performers.  We were the fifth group to perform and we solved the problem about the side walk artist.

I found some of the plays a little boring to watch because they had a simple obvious solution to the problem instead of something creative, whacky and original.

I ended up enjoying the whole day as well as our performance."

"I enjoyed Performance Day thoroughly.  I liked most of the play, there were a couple that were boring and I agreed with the judges all the time.

Our play was about Keane getting his portrait painted by Brett and me.  Brett and I get called away by Darcy because Tom put hot popcorn on a gas bottle.  While Brett, Darcy and I were away, the buddies wrecked the painting.

I thought our play was a success.  It was a great day."

Performance Day has become an annual event at Happy Valley School. This year approximately one hundred children, from all year levels, actively participated in the event which was held on Monday 1st July in the School Hall.

Performance Day provides an opportunity for groups of older students together with their younger buddies, to select a problem to solve, and then perform a solution to that problem in the form of a short play for the whole school.  The day encourages all students to think about performance as an opportunity to entertain and deliver a message. This year the performances revolved around the visual and expressive arts.  Performance Day began at 11.30 in the School Hall and continued into the afternoon.

Parents were most welcome to pop in and any watch the clever solutions acted out by the groups.

In the weeks leading up to Performance Day, each Buddy group is presented with five problems. Each group selects one problem and demonstrates a solution by way of a five minute presentation. The most dynamic, confident solutions are chosen to perform on Performance Day.

Performance Day plays a small part in the school's on-going commitment to its Peer Support Programme. This programme attempts to provide children with the ability to cope better with the following:-
   Cooperation
   Communication

Feelings and Emotions

Relationships

Friendship

Obeying Rules

Team Building

Decision Making

Problem Solving

Self Awareness.

The school would like to acknowledge all students who participated in this year's Performance Day. Congratulations to all of you for you fine efforts.
