Swimming is an
important part of the Physical Education programme offered at
Happy
Valley
School.
Students are involved in swimming at all year levels from Reception to
Year 7. The overall aim of
the programme is to develop strong, confident swimmers who are able to
safely enjoy the fun and recreational water activities that are possible
in our unique Australian climate.
A
During the early school years, the emphasis is on
water confidence. As the children become more confident, the various
swimming strokes are introduced and water safety becomes an important
ingredient. By the time the students reach Year 6 and 7, they are
involved in a wide variety of aquatic activities at the Port Noarlunga
Aquatics Centre.
The venue is superb. A beautiful beach, a jetty, a
reef and a river estuary are all within a five minute walk. Here
specialist instructors guide the children through a week of activities
such as snorkelling, fishing, canoeing, surfing, wave skiing, sailing
and sail-boarding.
The children
travel to Port Noarlunga daily by bus. It is a memorable occasion for
the Year 6/7 students who get to specialize in one particular activity
each year. It is one of the most memorable activities in the busy
Year 6/7 calendar.
