Lynn Vinall
We were very saddened to hear last week of the death of Lynn Vinall, the mother of two of our Happy Valley children. Many of you will know the family because of their involvement in many of our school's activities. I am sure that the thoughts of our whole school community are with Richard, Karlia and Teagan at this time.

Four Corners -- DVD
With permission from the ABC, the Healthy Eating Committee, have been allowed to burn a copy, for each family, of a Four Corners programme, which was presented last year. The programme is titled "Generation Obesity" and looks at the changes to Australian Society in relation to food, exercise and potential decline in health as a result of these changes.

In the last week of this term the committee will be sending home a copy of this programme. It is hoped that families will make the time during the holidays to view this together.

As teachers will be using this programme as a basis for discussion early next term we will provide some information to families such as worksheets to do together to help children be ready for class activities.

If you do not have a DVD player and would like videotape could you please let the front office know.  Thank you.

Parking -- Greenbriar Avenue
At Governing Council on Monday night it was brought up that parents were parking on the northern side of this road and at times restricting access to the village gates as well as making it very difficult for other vehicles. Please note that there is a yellow line along this side indicating "No Parking". For everyone's safety it may be necessary to ask the Onkaparinga Council Parking Inspectors to monitor this road.

Disco
Our "Special Events" Forum held its first very successful disco last Friday. Our very enthusiastic group of students worked really hard at organising the night, and in a short time frame. Several groups of students managed the canteen during the evening and we will have raised quite a lot of money, the amount yet to be finalised. The students met again this week to look at what went well and also at what we can do better next time.

At the disco on Friday, there were some students, who came to the disco and who do not come to our school. Due to the very large numbers of students attending and because of our duty of care, we will not have students attending who are not currently enrolled at Happy Valley School. Please remember this for next time, as we will phone parents to collect the students.

Thank you very much to the parents who stayed to help on Friday night. We really appreciated your help. We will be looking for helpers at our next disco, which will be in Term 4.

PRINCIPAL'S AWARDS

Congratulations to the following students who have received Principal's Awards, for demonstrating our school values.  They are Gemma Brandenburg, Jesse Chudleigh, Sophie Ellacott, Jake Stratton, Mitchell Walton, Matthew Kite, Claire Davidson, Caleb Daniel, Michael Ross, Michael Ottewell, Cale Hutchings, Breahnn Sheridan, Janice Davidson, Liam Tester and Maddy Gavin.

ART ACTIVITIES -- COME 'N TRY

The previous workshops offering painting, printmaking, clay and mosaics were very successful and were extended to a third week to complete projects.  Quite a few parents and staff took part and much fun was had by all.

The Education sub-committee are offering another chance for adults to take part in a two-week workshop during Term 3.  You must be available for both sessions, which will be held at 7:15pm -- 9:15pm on Monday 31st July and Monday 7th August.

Debby-Haskard Strauss will be taking the workshop in her studio in Unit 4, teaching you how to make a lino cut or a wood cut.  You will be shown how to create a design, transfer it onto your block, shown how to curve and then print your image, which can be used for cards, letterheads or as a picture to frame.

No experience is necessary, however numbers are limited.  Please return the expression of interest to the front office as soon as possible.

THE E-LEARNING EXPO

Breahnn Sheridan, Janice Davidson and Cale Hutchings, 3 year 7 students, had the opportunity to visit the Technology School of the Future, at Hindmarsh. We presented some power points and talked about this year's Jason Project: Mysteries of Earth and Mars, Tidbinbilla Deep Space Centre, Robotics, Newton's Cradles and much more. We were joined by some Woodend students who presented with us. We were also shouted lunch, which was really yummy. We had a great time and enjoyed this opportunity.

SPORT

SAPSASA SOCCER
Happy Valley Senior Boys played Tatachilla Lutheran College last week in SAPSASA soccer.  Unfortunately, Happy Valley lost 5-1 in what was a hard fought contest.  The score line was not a true reflection of the balance of the game and with a little more luck in a number of areas, Happy Valley could have finished much closer.  All of the boys should be proud of the effort they put in right through until the final whistle.  Many of the players will still be at the school next year so hopefully the experience will be beneficial for 2007.

SDJSA INTER-SCHOOL ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Five Happy Valley soccer players participated in these championships over the June long weekend.  Sean Goldfinch and Daniel Moore were selected to play for a composite team representing 8 local schools in the Senior Primary division while Wesley Evans, Justin Kite and Shane Martin played in a similar team in the Under 11s.

The boys played 5 games over 2 days and whilst neither of their teams won the championships, they did beat higher ranked teams to influence the overall result.  The opportunity to play 5 intense matches and blend with players from other schools was an experience from which they will all benefit.

All of the boys performed well and they should be proud of the manner in which they represented the school.

FOOTBALL
It has been a great 7 weeks of Football so far with all teams having convincing wins.

It has been good to see some parents helping out when the games are played at Happy Valley, but its still seems that the same parents are in the canteen. These parents would like to watch their child play as well.

A couple of reminders. This season parents may see that umpires are wearing different tops when umpiring the games. this is mainly in 2/3 and 4/5 grades.  The green tops represent their first year of umpiring, which means they will need time to learn and for the parents and coaches to be patient when they make a decision on the football field.  The white tops represent that they have been involved in umpiring for couple of years.

Remember if we loose umpires, football will not happen. Unfortunately last year we lost a few umpires due to poor behaviour from different schools.  Remember we do this for the children.

I have been very impressed with the children's attitudes towards football this year, WELL DONE.  The children who have been asked to play for the other team have shown great sportsmanship.  Thank you,  as  other  schools  and  the

Panther League have praised Happy Valley for this.

Big congratulations to Jack Reynolds and Jack Spacie for being selected to represent our State in the Under 13’s Development Squad.  Jack R will be play in Melbourne and Jack S will play here in Adelaide against Broken Hill.  They will play a number of games starting on 27th June and through out the week. On behalf of Coaches, players and myself, we wish you the very best and enjoy your Football experience.
